The life and work of Buckminster Fuller: a timeline

Buckminster “Bucky” Fuller is known for his many innovative projects including the dymaxion house and car, the geodesic dome, and his science fiction pieces. But what do we really know about Fuller’s unorthodox theories and practices? Jonathon Keats writes in You Belong to the Universe: Buckminster Fuller and the Future:

“For all the factual inaccuracies, Fuller’s personal myth is his truest intellectual biography. Moreover, because there’s no authoritative version— no consistency between tellings— his ideas remain as pliable today as when he was alive. His insights and innovations can be endlessly recombined and reimagined as global circumstances change. Revisiting his myth— with all its historical inaccuracies— is fundamental to reviving and renewing his thinking.”

In order to get a sense of Fuller’s reputation, we’ve pulled together a timeline featuring the key moments in the life and career of this charismatic American inventor.
