The Future of the Brain

The Picower Institute for Learning and Memory at MIT will host a powerhouse symposium on December 1 which it is calling “The Future of the Brain.” The event will be moderated by Ira Flatow of NPR’s Science Friday, who has had a number of Oxford authors on his show of late, and even though the symposium shares a title with this book by Steven Rose, neither connection is the Oxford tie that inspired this post. Instead, two of the symposium participants were actually interviewed by Susan Blackmore for Conversations on Consciousness: What the Best Minds Think About the Brain, Free Will, And What It Means to Be Human.

Christof Koch of CalTech will speak on the biological basis of consciousness.

Philosopher Patricia Churchland of UCSD will speak to the relationship between philosophic inquiry and brain research.
