Saturday 16 June 2007 saw the Oxford offices of OUP transformed for one night only: the Oxford University Press Ball. These momentous nights only take place every few years, so it really is a special occasion. Below, for your viewing pleasure, are some photographs from the night in question.
This year’s theme was ‘Lost in Music’. OUP was turned into The Cavern Club and, as befits such an illustrious venue, we were treated to Beatles tribute band The Complete Beatles.
We had a choice of dress codes: either black tie or ‘music icon’. As well as appearances from Michael Jackson, Madonna, Ozzy Osbourne, two Boy Georges, and at least three separate Adam Ants, some of the girls from the OUP distribution centre in Corby came in their best sixties attire.
Meanwhile, here’s Kate Farquhar-Thomson, Head of Publicity, in her Dusty Springfield regalia, chatting to Susanna Lob, Head of Reference and Online Marketing.
Elsewhere was a casino complete with play money bearing the faces of the various divisional Managing Directors, and we even had a specially constructed water-feature to make up for our usual fountain being hidden by the marquee. They even supplied rubber duckies in place of our real ducks!
After the live bands had finished, guests could dance the rest of the night away in our Studio 54 disco (formally the OUP restaurant), or relax in The Fairway, and listen to some piano playing. A wonderful night was had by all, and by selling raffle tickets for a prize draw we made approximately £5000 for charity too.
Roll on the next OUP Ball!
