		<description>The Notes &amp; Queries quote above does offer an interesting possibility, though it would be stronger if it offered early, relevant quotes. Another writer in N &amp; Q that same year (Sept. 7, p. 231) has a suggestion with relevant earlier quotes (quotes that could be supplemented, if interested). 1650: &quot;...English bor&#039;d also through the nose this way, by paying excessive prices....&quot; Including quotes from Shakespeare, the possibility becomes that one was &quot;led by the nose,&quot; gulled, tricked, led like a dumb animal by a string through a nose hole.
