A director in UK has film footage of Gil Scott-Heron being interviewed in Nottingham England in 1993/4?

The director Pogus Caesar who lives in Birmingham showed the film to some of us students, interesting words from GHS. Might be worth finding this rare footage.

Gil Scott-Heron's ability to convey big ideas such as community issues as well as international issues into a single song is unprecedented. Not only is he capable of creating such comprehensive words but the sounds of the compositions he has created match the words perfectly every time.

Yes, it is ironic that he was imprisoned on a drug charge after his eloquent warnings about the dangers of drugs, however have we considered the huge commitment and responsibility of "delivery" to himself and his fans that he took on? After the banning of B Movie on the radio in Philadelphia, I am convinced that it is entirely possible that Big Brother was watching very closely. How would you or I, the common person deal with such pressure?

I really can't answer that personally but I will say this: whatever was going on in the life of Gil Scott-Heron behind the scenes, he never disappointed in performance and performed no matter what was going on. He has openly spoken on cocaine and his use of it, his view of it as different from other drugs since according to him notable personalities such as Edgar Alan Poe and others made use of it. That does not necessarily satisfy us, the general public, but in true Scott-Heron style he has been brutally honest on his viewpoint. Gil Scott-Heron is one of those geniuses that has his quirks but there is no question about his genius. He is who he is and we simply need to acknowledge his gifts to us and accept him as he is.

It is my belief that his music will surely be studied from many aspects - technique, writing, poetically and politically for a long, long time to come.
