Anon, perhaps your family comes from northern italy. Eel is quite common on Christmas Eve, most italian americans eat it or at least have heard of it.

Also, your not supposed to eat meat on Christmas Eve, so I assume that your antipast is seafood.

My grandfather always ate eel on christmas eve and his parents were off the boat from southern italy.

Riley doesn't sound like an Italian name to me... Eel? On Christmas??? Where are you getting this stuff from? You English have some weird ideas about Italians and what we eat for dinner - especially on Christmas.

My family's typical Christmas Eve meal:
Tortellini in Clam Sauce, Antipast, Lobster, Stuffed Mushrooms, it goes on... (without eel)

-Italian American (family off-the-boat)
