		<description>Good article. The only thing I would take issue with is the notion that Valens was &quot;ambushed&quot; by the Greuthungi. This was a hot August day, and Ammianus himself describes how the battle raised a choking cloud of dust. The returning cavalry must have been raised a similar cloud that would have been visible long before they reached the battlefield.
