I heard that the history of this word was from when Brits were aboard French ships, and the French numbered each of the rooms in the ship. For continuity, all the bathrooms were numbered 100, however the Brits read it as "LOO", and started referring to it as such. Is there any way to verify the accuracy of the French ship numbering scheme from the Revolutionary period?
