I have bipolar disorder and am a college student. I am getting a scooter to ride to school so I need a license; but I am having to cut through a lot more red tape to get that license based on my psychiatric history. I am a family member of a loved one who has suffered from mental illness over the course of his life. Until recently he has not received treatment or medication of any kind. His current medication regime comes only after an arrest following a psychotic episode and a D.A. who feels that jail is the best place for a person who clearly suffers very real and manifested illness.
