Friday Procrastination

Don’t feel like working today? Neither do we. So here are a couple of our favorite ways to waste time on the internet.

  • Read the top 100 quotes from the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations, as selected by the Oxford Dictionary team. Personally, we love that Jane Austen made the top ten with “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”
  • Check out the Thinkmap Visual Thesaurus. It’s the most fun we have had with words since, well, ever. (No offense Anatoly!)
  • IMHO the OUPblog is GR8 and AFAIK PPL enjoy reading it. Are these abbreviations gibberish to you? Don’t KWIM? Check out the Better Writing Guide to electronic abbreviations.
  • Like corny jokes? Have an ear for bad puns? Then the Awful Authors Challenge is right up your alley. Can you complete the names for the authors of imaginary books? Example The Cliff Tragedy, by Eileen…who? Answer Eileen Dover.

Have a great weekend!
