Sirs.
(Terribly sorry, nut mein Deutsch ist leider zu schlecht!):

Could you kindly give me an e-mail adress to Mr. Rainer von Hessen (if he is, as I hope) still alive?

I'm a Norwesgian journalist inerested in a couple of aspects concerning the House of Hessen.

Sincerely,
R.Kristensen.

I haven't read your book. Do you examine the reasons for the aristocracy supporting Hitler and the Nazi party? As I understand it, their tacit approval of his actions was largely precipitated by Hitler's promise (either explicit or implicit) to protect their interests in a time when those interests were threatened by the post-WWI socialist/Communist fervor. For example, the landed gentry in Ost-Preusen were allowed to retain their substantial land holdings. Comments?

For heaven's sake, German aristocracy was (and is) no monolithic block.

There used to be (and to some families there still is, socially) a bigger gap between the higher (Hochadel) and the lower (niedriger Adel) ranks of the aristocracy than between aristocracy and the middle classes. For example, intermarriage between the two classes used to be (and for some families still is) unthinkable.

The backbone of the aristocratic (if there was anything like that) resistance against Hitler were men from the Prussian "Junker" class, socially closer to landed gentry and the middle classes than to "royalty".

The part of resistance against the Nazis, to which is frequently refered as "aristocratic", was not that, but a military one and a disproportional number of high-ranking officers came traditionally from aristocratic, more precisely Prussian and aristocratic families.

The Hochadel, the former royal families of the German countries, were, by and large, rather sympathetic to Hitler's cause. Why that is so would be beyond the scope of a comment in a weblog.

It is embarrassing that you didn't acquire a modicum of information before performing an interview like that.

And it is even more embarrassing that an American should refer to a member of European royalty painstakingly as "HRH".
